In The Complete Peerage, his paternal ancestry is given as: son of Reynold de Botreaux (d 1346), son of William de Botreaux (d ca 1342), son of William de Botreaux (d 1302), son of Reynold de Botreaux (d 1273). Research by John Ravilous, posting on soc.genealogy.medieval, indicates that the Botreaux family was originally Boterel, as shown above.
