a. While traditional sources, including The Hobbs Family Tree from Northeast North Carolina, show the earliest two generations of this line, preceding Thomas Hobbs, as Abrahams (of Devonshire, England), Diane Hobbs Mickey states that the bible of Thomas' son, Elisha, states that his father, Thomas, came from Wales. Based upon this bible information, as well as noting that the given name Abraham appears in NONE of the descendants of Thomas, the inclination is to believe that there was likely no connection with Abraham Hobbs of Devonshire. Sorting through the Hobbs families of the Chowan/Perquimans/Gates County areas of North Carolina is difficult, as there were often several individuals with the same given name living during the same time period. There is also some confusion regarding Guy Hobbs. Diane Hobbs Mickey shows this Guy (father of Jesse), as a son of Thomas Hobbs, and brother of Amos; chronologically this is impossible. Since Amos also had a son, Guy, and the Hobbs book shows him to be Jesse's father, this has been followed here as the more probable connection.
