NOTES:
a.The connection of Mary Ladd as daughter of Joseph Ladd and Lydia Gray is based upon an educated guess. Mary Ladd's Newport birth record states she was daughter of JOHN Ladd and Lydia, and this author believes, based upon no evidence of a John Ladd with wife Lydia in any New England sources, that this was an error for Joseph. Additionally, Mary Ladd's daughter was named Deborah, as was Mary's sister, this given name evidently deriving from their maternal grandmother, Deborah Church. Also, it is stated in Little Compton Families, regarding Joseph Ladd and Lydia Gray, that "this family moved out of town about 1744." An additional record found, from Arnold's Vital Record of RI, gives convincing evidence that Joseph and Lydia Ladd did indeed remove to Newport: "LADD, Lydia, of Joseph and Lydia, bapt. 11 Jun 1744, Newport."
